Garden 6: Nicola Woolford Weeroona (a place for relaxation and rest) 16 Wylie Street Taggerty |
Like many gardeners is important for us to tend to our "plot". We have created a garden that reflects our love of nature and makes the most of our small ¼ acre block. We began designing and planting out the backyard in the winter of 2004 and by 2006 many plants had found their permanent place and showed they could survive the hot dry summers and frosty winters. The small back lawn is surrounded with easy care natives. This includes Eucalyptus, Allocasurinas and Banksias. The under story has a variety of shrubs, native grasses and many other small flowering natives. Beyond this is a small "edible" garden which when well tended provides produce for the kitchen. Each year the veggie patch is topped up with a dose of homemade compost that is helped along by the chickens. The front garden is a lot younger with limited plant varieties including Eucalyptus Ficifolia, Hakea, Xanthorrhoea, Dianellas, Poas and in winter the Acacia varieties flower prolifically. Some "exotic" species have crept in such as Cotinus (purple smoke bush), succulents varieties, New Zealand Flax, Leucadendron and an Albizzia ( Chinese silk tree) With the help of lots of mulch we have enjoyed developing our garden and attracting many birds that help us enjoy some restful moments!.We hope to inspire gardeners with a smaller patch of earth to still create a varied and colourful garden |
